Motorcycle Ban on Main Roads will Be Expanded

If we get more bus, the motorcycle ban on main roads will be expanded

The city administration will impose a motorcycle ban in the capital's thoroughfares, Jalan HI Roundabout until Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat on December 17, 2014. Temporarily, the policy is only imposed on such roads due to the lack of double-decker fleet.

"We already have 10 free double-decker buses so far, that's why the policy only applied on Jalan HI Roundabout until Jalan Medan Merdeka," disclosed Jakarta Governor, Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama, Wednesday (12/10).

Motorcycle Ban, Where to Park? Here They Are

If the ban runs successfully and adequate bus, the policy will be expanded to other regions. "If we get more bus, the motorcycle ban on main roads will be expanded," he expressed.

For the smooth implementation of the policy, Basuki disclosed, his party also has asked Jakarta Transportation Department to no longer provide escorts for mayor and governor's official vehicles.

"They (Transportation Department) better escort the bus in the field, thus people feel more comfortable ride bus than riding motorcycle," he revealed.

In addition, he disclosed, the city administration has been preparing development plans in the Monas' basement that can accommodate thousands of motorcycles.

"We also want cooperation with building management to provide motorcycle parking area thus residents do not have problems accessing the parking lot and continue trip using our bus," he told.

Former Regent of East Belitung acknowledged such policy is indeed causing pro and contra among the public. "This is not a problem as long as Jakarta could be better in the future," he asserted.
